We had our first big storm last night—hail, thunder, lightning, low temps, several inches of rain, and a light dusting of snow across the peaks. Hard to believe that this same microclimate saw temperatures of 100 degrees and more shortly before harvest—just in time to give a beautiful finishing touch and perfect balance of acid, fruit, and sugars to the grapes.
At the winery, the Chardonnay is finishing fermentation, and the reds are resting for the winter. Wearing our new Villa del Monte Winery sweatshirts, we check the wine daily to ensure the reds are progressing nicely through malolactic conversion.
