Villa del Monte Winery
What are your COVID-19 protocols?
We’re strictly adhering to state and county guidance so we are enforcing enhanced cleaning protocols, face coverings, proper social distancing, regular hand washing, and ongoing sanitizing of all surfaces before and after each visit. We are proud to have received the Santa Cruz County Public Health COVD-19 Safer certification. Please read our full COVID-19 protocol.
Do you take reservations for wine tasting?
We want you to have a safe wine tasting experience so we recommend making a reservation in order to best enjoy your wine tasting experience since, as a small family-owned winery, we have a limited amount of outdoor space. Learn more about scheduling a tasting on our COVID-19 protocol page.
What type of wine do you make?
Villa del Monte Winery produces small lots of award-winning wine, including Chardonnay, Cabernet, Malbec, Merlot, Merlot Dessert wine, Pinot, Syrah, Syrah Rosé, and Zinfandel. While most of our wines are single-varietal, single-vineyard, we also produce one blend, called Vintners Select.
Do you grow your own grapes?
No, we work with a handful of well-known local growers to select the best grapes possible each year for our single-varietal, single-vineyard wines. Grapes also come from small Cabernet and Pinot Noir vineyards that we manage in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We use grapes from top Northern California appellations, primarily from American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley, and Los Carneros (Napa County).
The hand-selected grape clusters are pressed and crushed on site. Wine is aged in oak barrels in our forest-protected, solar-powered winery building, cooled by the Santa Cruz Mountains morning fog.
What is the wine tasting experience?
Wine tastings are conducted by our winemakers, Neil and John. They will gladly answer your questions about viticulture, wine making, varietals, and the local winery scene. Often, they will pull out a special bottle and offer you a taste. On busy days, we sometimes have a helper at the tasting bar, but rest assured that one of our winemakers is always within shouting distance if you have a question. Tastings are typically held on our outdoor patio, weather permitting.
Are dogs allowed?
While we love dogs, we do not currently allow dogs at the winery due to the COVID-19 protocols.
Can you accommodate limos and small tour buses?
We are on a private driveway with limited parking. We cannot accommodate limos. We can accommodate small tour buses by arrangement. Please call us at 408-353-0995 if you are planning to visit in a small tour bus.
Do you serve food? Can we bring a picnic lunch?
